Wooden Floors

Solid wood floors give a warm feel and can be very practical in heavy wear areas.

There are two types of wood flooring and the first is a solid wooden 20mm plank which is completely natural. The second type is an engineered board normally 14mm thick, it looks the same as the solid wood floor but actually comprises of two layers, the top layer is a 4mm solid wood with a spruce pine base to strengthen it. They come in a number of options whether a 3 strip, 2 strip or single plank appearance.

Wood expands and contracts depending on the humidity of the room so wooden flooring is recommended in all areas except bathrooms and utility rooms, due to steam and moisture. Kitchen use depends on the amount of spillages and wear it is likely to get. General adult use is fine but if there are children, pets, or potential spillages then you would be better to consider Amtico or Karndean.

You need to be aware that wood can be dented so sharp objects like stilettos or animals claws can cause dents and so the more rustic the look of the wooden floor, the easier it is to hide any marks or dents.
